Room 401, Friday Morning

All in all, it was a good thing that Alec didn't seem to be around this week, because it allowed for Topher the gopher to sit on his bed, contentedly destroying his pillowcase.

Wait, maybe that meant that it wasn't such a good thing. But Topher appreciated it, at least. He had paws and claws and was appreciating the chance to get to use them before they went away. In fact, he was working kind of hard on using his claws to scratch up Alec's pillow in the shape of the helmet from the bad guy from Space Battles. Once he thought he had it for the most part, he squeaked for Victor's attention to show off his handiwork, tilting his little gopher head as if to ask Nice, right?

Still. He was becoming pretty bored with being a gopher. Was this going to be over soon?

"You're paying for that pillow," Victor advised the gopher with a sigh. "I've started keeping a log of all the stuff you've ruined, you know that?"

Topher gave a curious chitter. Like what was on it, Victor? Inquiring minds wanted to... ruin more things that hadn't already been ruined.

"What's on it?" Victor checked. (He'd gotten pretty good at interpreting gopher.) "Um, some wires at the store, two bags of Doritos, a box of Cheerios, the drywall behind my desk, and a whole stack of Spider-Man trading cards that aren't even in print anymore. Do you know what those things go for on eBay?"

Topher did his best to look innocent at that last part. It was a tiny bit possible that he had chewed on them out of jealousy.

Then he made another noise - hard to say exactly what this one was besides that it was shrill and mildly concerned - before he abruptly transformed from a gopher back into a Topher, squawked in human-speak, and promptly yanked Alec's blanket around himself and burrowed under it.

"Hello," he said loudly from under the blanket.

"Hola," Victor returned, bemused. "So, um ... you just changed back."

That had been surprising. Victor was almost used to the idea Topher might be a gopher for good.

"Did it hurt?"

"My elbow hit the bedframe," Topher offered. "So. Kinda."

Whiner.

"Dude, being a gopher sucks."

"Taking care of a gopher sucks too," Victor said. "You chewed stuff and didn't stay still and didn't smell all that great."

Whiner, too.

"You need clothes, huh?"

"Yes, please," Topher agreed. "Preferably nothing of your roommate's, I learned one weekend when I wasn't myself that leather kinda itches."

The idea that anything of Alec's would fit Topher was hilarious, anyway.

"Plus I think Alec would have a heart attack if I gave another guy his clothes," Victor noted, and went over to his dresser for sweatpants and a t-shirt. "Here."

[dollpocalypse]

A skinny wrist extracted itself from Alec's blankets. "Thank you."

Manners from Topher! Gosh.

"So, important question," he added, already in the process of shrugging into the shirt and providing Victor with a probably hilarious view of his blanket-covered flailing, "which is cooler, a gopher or a random purple lizard?"

Victor hesitated. "Do you really want me to answer that?"

The lizard won, come on.

For sure. It wasn't even a question. "...No," Topher sighed after giving it some thought. "But I used to have a lizard and it peed in my hand a lot, FYI."

[ultron_junior]

"Ew," Victor decided. "I guess now Gert owes Bay, like, a lot." He scratched at the back of his neck. "Thanks for not peeing on me?"

That sounded very weird.

[dollpocalypse]

"Anytime," Topher replied brightly, undeterred by the weirdness. "She owes me too if -- oh, wait, ew, what if she turns back in my bed?"

Newly clothed, he surfaced from Alec's blankets. "You think she'd be up for buying me a new bed?"

"With all the money she doesn't have, yeah," Victor said dryly. "I think your bed will be safe."
