Room 307, Tuesday Afternoon

In preparation for his portal tomorrow morning, Topher was cleaning his room -- no. Topher was organizing his room, and it was turning out to be a surprisingly horrifying process.

The thing was that he was, on the surface, a very neat person. His clean clothes were always folded because that's how the dry-cleaners left them and there was rarely visible stuff on the floor of his side of the room besides wires. However, that was only because all of the stuff that was on the floor inevitably got shoved under his desk or bed or into his closet so he wouldn't have to see it all the time. Having a mess was fine, but having to look at it was quite another. No, thank you.

Unfortunately, packing for the summer meant that he finally did have to deal with this mess, which led to situations like, for instance, Topher crouching beside his bed, squinting at the mess underneath it, and asking aloud, "Is that a shirt or a possum?"

He wasn't a hundred percent sure, and it was a rather alarming concern to have, so to avoid having to go near the maybe-possum, Topher decided to abandon his half-packed bags for right now and perch himself on top of his desk with his laptop in his lap, where he began modifying Broca II's code so that he could go check it out. Robot dogs were useful that way.

"Exactly," Victor nodded vigorously. (He was ignoring the question of whether he was or was not okay at dating, because it seemed to him like the empiric proof was that he was not.) "And even if she doesn't get kidnapped, she isn't exactly cool with me almost getting killed all the time."

He glanced over. "You don't worry about that stuff with Billy?"

"Not really," Topher said, shrugging. "'Cause I'm kind of able to handle dangerous stuff. Not like you and Billy can, 'cause I don't have superpowers or tights or whatever, but we got chased by this sentient virus Tony programmed once, and this other time we were on a date and Doombots were attacking, and I was completely fine."

He had definitely screamed his head off and almost gotten himself killed in the former circumstance, but sure.

"Also, if I ever got kidnapped by a supervillain, it would take Billy like five seconds to do a spell to unkidnap me. And same goes for if he was ever about to almost get killed. Poof, magic. Problem solved."

It was true. Billy's powers were pretty useful like that.

"Dating a reality warper must be awesome that way," Victor said thoughtfully. "If he wants a villain to forget you're there so you can run away, bam, it happens."

His own powers were not quite as useful, on the de-kidnapping front.

"Or even walk away," Topher said. Because even in a hypothetical kidnapping scenario, walking was better than running. "Your powers are awesome too, but you'd have to, like, actually find the guy first so you could zap him, and then you'd have to put up with Olive crying at you and stuff..."

"I bet you'd cry before Olive did," Victor said, with no real heat behind it.

Topher flicked a chip at him. Which wasn't disagreement, necessarily. "I'd blame asthma," he decided. "Billy would never know."
