Okay. The world was maybe almost over. Topher was more than a little freaked.

So out came the dice and the cape, and after making a quick annoucement, he set up at a toadstool with some character sheets for some pre-apocalyptic Dungeons and Dragons.

Kid had priorities.

"What in the world is this?" Tyrion wondered in a puzzled tone. "Don't tell me we're playing a game."

He was sitting down as he spoke. He liked games. They passed the time.

He totes can! GO FOR IT.

More than anything, Kitty was just curious. Moreso when she saw the guy in charge.

"Nice cape," said the superhero.

"...lawful good might not get drunk," Topher pointed out. "And I don't wanna tell you how to parent your kid, but..."

ALSO PROBABLY NO TO THE DRINKING.

"I think you should," Topher decided. Then, pointing: "Character sheets."

"Dungeons and Dragons!" Topher reported, reaching over to hand Tyrion a moddable character sheet.

The idea that someone might not know what that was totally didn't occur to him.

"Thanks!" Kitty, congratulations. You were the first one to just compliment the cape without asking all kinds of questions about it. "DMs totally need capes, right?"

And now he got a blank stare. "What's a DM?"

And she got a big ol' stare in return.

"...Dungeon Master," Topher answered. "Duh."

Tavern. Half-orc barbarian. Three intelligence. Jono was pretty certain his character wasn't capable of tying her own shoes.

... Except that she had seventeen dexterity. So perhaps she could tie them with her eyes closed. But only if she was trying to do something completely different, like use a can opener.

This game made his brain ache.

"Can Thorgabella just smash things?"

That seemed like a better plan.

Tyrion looked over a few character sheets before deciding he'd make his own.

Ser Malkym Timfreys -- a rogue, but one (chaotically) on the side of good -- came out healthy and strong, if a bit shorted in the areas of intelligence and dexterity.

"There's a god of dwarves in this game," he observed as he filled the sheet out.

... Sigh.

"Fine."

She wasn't going to go wandering around again, and this was probably a marginally better idea than just sitting and moping. Congrats, Topher, this was probably the only time ever that Natalie was going to do what you said.

"That sounds... completely different than what you probably mean by it," she decided.

"I'm going to stay here and drink," Tyrion decided. "I have money, and why would I want to make the followers of an evil gnome king angry?"

Someone hadn't paid much attention in hero school.

Oh, Kitty, please don't play the kinky card with him. He couldn't bear it.

"This is Dungeons & Dragons," Topher explained, pointing at the... well, dice. "It's a role-playing game. Ergo, the guy in charge -- me -- is the Dungeon Master."

See, totally not kinky.

Tyrion glanced over the sheet as he spoke. "A bit more complicated than monsters and maidens. That one's mostly about catching girls and making them laugh."

Deadpool sighed dramatically. "Fine, she'll have juice. And glare at people. Right, Jan?"

Jan made a goldfish dance up Deadpool's shin in response, singing something that might have been a made up song.

"Wasp is totally down with that!" Deadpool chimed in for Jan. She was terribly busy, people.

"Well, so long as she approves," Jono replied, offering Jan-of-the-goldfish-crackers a bit of a smile. "Thorgabella is going to start by throwing a table. Just because."

It was the in thing this year.

In this way, Topher and Tyrion's priorities differed drastically. Because Topher twitched at the reference to the dreaded flirting. "Ew."

Yeah. Roleplaying and Dungeon Master. Nothing kinky about that.

Luckily for Topher, Kitty's brain didn't go there. "So what do you do in this?"

"That's what the girls usually said when I tried to play," Tyrion said lightly. He'd finished reading the sheet now. "All right. So this is a game about telling stories?"

Jan offered him a goldfish because she was nice like that. And he looked like he might have spare candy on him.

"But Dazzler is not cool with this since she's all good and lawful and crap. Also, charisma all over the place. Look at that charisma there, Poccylips, Just look at it! This is how she manages to still have a career without disco being popular."

"You don't think the cape is a bit much?" His had a function, at least. And matched his costume, but that was important too, darn it.

"You get a character sheet," Topher said, pointing to the stack. "And then come up with an alignment, and then you go on a mission that I determine."

AND HE WOULD JUST BE HERE GOING MAD WITH POWER.
