Room 307, Monday Morning

Topher woke up today with a two-minute coughing fit, which, as far as weird weekend mornings-after went, wasn't as bad as some that he'd experienced over the past few years. It wasn't an epic headache or a still-painful bruise, but it was annoying, as was the lingering smell of weed in the room.

A mental review of the weekend's events revealed that he'd missed work -- possibly his last day of work for this school year, depending on whether he felt like going this week -- but that wasn't a huge problem; on top of that, Topher supposed that if he was ever going to smoke pot, doing it while he was temporarly not asthmatic was probably the way to go, so the only real surprise came when he checked the date on his digital watch and paused.

"Oh, hey," he said aloud, blinking. "I'm seventeen."

Had been for a few days now, actually. Huh. Fancy that.

To celebrate, he got up, cracked the door open to air out the weed smell, and flopped in his desk chair with some celebratory Ding-Dongs. He would have put a candle in one of them, but he only had so much energy for this.

"Topher?" Billy called through the crack in the door. He figured things were back to normal, but the smell was throwing him a little. "Are you in there?"

"Yeah, hi!" Topher called, kicking the door the rest of the way open from his seat at the desk. "Come in."

Billy grinned as he came in, looking relieved. "Hey. How's it going?" he asked genuinely. "Are you feeling okay after the weekend?"

[dollpocalypse]

"I am feeling less conspiracy-y and less inclined to partake in recreational drugs, even with cool devices," Topher reported. "What about you? Were you anyone weird?"

"No, I think the island was making up for last year." Not that the eyeliner hadn't been hot and all, but still. "You sounded... interesting on the radio."

[dollpocalypse]

"Yeah, I think I was stoned," Topher explained, moving from his desk to his bed and gesturing for Billy to come sit with him. "Sort of weird. I had this cool drug thing, though. It was shaped like a coffee cup. That was neat."

Billy sat down, happy to be close to Topher. "It was neat to get stoned?" Such a nerd, Billy was.

[dollpocalypse]

"More like the device itself was neat," Topher clarified. "Why, do you want to get stoned?"

Okay then.

"Not particularly? Especially 'cause I don't know what that might do to my powers," Billy said. "When you have the ability to conjure up an infinite amount of munchies food, getting stoned probably isn't smart."

[dollpocalypse]

"That sounds like a cool experiment..." Topher mused, tilting his head, but he was grinning enough that it was probably clear that he wasn't overly attached to this idea. "You sure?"

"Yeah, I'm sure. Plus, I like being boringly normal me," Billy said with a laugh. "Also, I bet my parents would find out somehow and kill me. I don't know how, but they would."

[dollpocalypse]

"Oh, right," said Topher, who often forgot that parents cared about their children's poor behavioral choices. "That's fair. I don't really wanna either. But FYI, you're super unboring. And you're not normal either. So there."

Billy smirked and stuck his tongue out at Topher. "So, the weird stuff kind of got in the way of me wishing you a happy birthday," he said. "Such bad timing."

[dollpocalypse]

"Yeah, I forgot too until today," Topher admitted. "I should really set phone alarms for this..."

"How do you forget your own birthday? Birthdays are important," Billy said, leaning over to give Topher a kiss. "We should make up for the lost day."

[dollpocalypse]

Topher preened. Kissing was awesome and so were (belated) birthday activities. Because such activities usually involved appreciating him, which Topher was always in favor of.

"Like how?" he asked, bouncing a little. "Can ice cream be a factor?"

"Ice cream can totally be a factor," Billy promised. "There could be an ice cream date, perhaps?"

[dollpocalypse]

"I like it," Topher declared, pointing at Billy solemnly. "Now? I could totally go for ice cream now."

Topher, it was like ten in the morning.

It was, but it was also a belated birthday thing, and time didn't matter when it came to belated birthday things. "We can do that if you want. My treat."

[dollpocalypse]

"Cool," Topher decided, hopping up and grabbing an abaondoned sweatshirt from the floor. "It's good we remembered now, 'cause I think I'm leaving in a week or... something." He wasn't completely sure of the exact date, to be honest. "For my summer job."

"Your... oh," Billy said, smiling a little as his emotions got all conflicted. "Are you going to be doing something fun?"

[dollpocalypse]

Topher watched Billy more attentively than he usually did, unsure about whether this news was going to be appreciated. Topher was excited, though, and it shone through in his voice even as he eyed Billy carefully. "Yeah, it's R&D stuff at this place in Cleveland," he shared. "Some universe that isn't mine. I'm gonna get to play with lasers."

That got a bigger smile out of Billy, because he couldn't deny how cool that sounded. "Lasers? That sounds awesome," he said genuinely. "You're going to be careful, right?"

[dollpocalypse]

Topher grinned. "Oh, yeah, I won't get lasered," he promised. "They have test subjects for that. It's totally safe for me."

Even if testing lasers actually sounded almost as cool as developing them. Still, it was awesome.

"And you can come see the labs sometime," he added. "I'm gonna get a lab coat. It's gonna be really cool."

"I want pictures. And fun details," Billy said, leaning close to Topher. "I'd like to visit you too if I can."

[dollpocalypse]

"Cool," Topher said, his face briefly lighting up. "It'll be fun."

He leaned in for a longish kiss, because really, it was a shame that that hadn't happened yet since Billy had gotten here.

Then- "Ice cream time?"
