Room 307, Friday Morning

"Nnnnnn," Topher mumbled into his pillow.

Ow, his head. Seriously, ow. Not cool, hangover. Topher pulled his blanket back over his head and hid from the sunlight peeking in through the window.

Thirty minutes later, he managed another noise, this one even containing a vowel. "Ugh," he groaned. Then, after a long enough pause for him to actually have some coherent thoughts, he followed that up with a miserable, "Appletinis are evil."

As much as he would have preferred to hide out in his blankets for another ten days, he knew that the next thing he had to do was check his phone, so he stuck out an arm from his blanket cave and retrieved it from the side table, expecting the worst.

"Man, why am I like this?"

"Zombie death, or death warmed over?" Kenzi wondered, opening the door, then grinning at the sight of Topher. "Wow. Celebrating early, hunh?"

Oh look, she had a bottle of water.

"Early for what?" asked the genius who had no idea when graduation was. He was, however, still under his blankets, so he had no idea there was water being offered. "Platinum Guy 3 came out yesterday."

Kenzi snickered and wandered over, dropping the bottle into his blankets. Watching him search for it might be fun. "I'm taking Toby to that tonight. On the mainland." Always good for shoring up funds, too!

"I meant for Graduation. You better be ready for more partying after tomorrow."

"Oh," Topher said, gratefully accepting the water bottle and taking a long sip before pulling the covers off from over him. Then he tilted his head. "Wait. Who do I know that's graduating?"

Kenzi hooted. "Um, me? And I'm pretty sure Tony and Steph are graduating, for starters, since they got those shiny shiny crowns at Prom."

"...That definitely came up last night," Topher recalled. "It... might have been why were out?"

Yep. Yep, it was.

"Wait, you can't graduate!"

"I can't?" Kenzi looked kind of hopeful. "Really? 'Cause I kept trying to have to repeat senior year, but nothing seemed to work."

"You're supposed to be the same age as me and Peter!" Topher insisted. Erronenously. "Wait. Is Peter graduating too? Wait. Am I supposed to graduate?"

Idiot or still drunk from last night? WHO COULD TELL?

"Dude. I'm like, a year and a half older than you," Kenzi said, highly entertained. "I came in as a junior. Two years ago. Now, I know you could test out and bail, but I'm pretty sure they would've mentioned it if you had to wear a hat and tacky gown tomorrow. And fight monsters."

Topher squinted. "...Is that what graduation is?"

This conversation was completely mystifying him. Probably because, you know. Hangover.

"Well. I'm not totally sure," Kenzi admitted. "But I went to last year's, just to see what it was like. Jonothon took popcorn. And boy, was he on the ball. It was a riot."

"So... should I go to yours?" Yeeees. "And, like... spend the next year practicing?"

"Might be smart." Really, if it were anyone but a hungover Topher, this would be insulting, but Kenzi was finding it way too funny. "Take notes and stuff. I'm gonna have a sword under my robe. Just in case, you know?"

"Want a grenade, too?" Topher wondered. "Like, a little one. You know. Minimal damage."

"Duh!" Kenzi beamed at him, drumming her heels on the floor. "I mean, I'm gonna hide if anything goes for me, that's smartest, but I could use the cover. Awesome."

"Bottom drawer," Topher said, pointing to his dresser. He didn't really want to get up, because his bed was supremely comfy, but he had faith that Kenzi could find his socks-and-grenades drawer all by herself. "One of the little blue and green ones. They're voice-command activated. You have to say 'Topher's awesome' and throw it."

Kenzi gave him a dude, seriously look as she rummaged, finding the grenade stuck in with other stuff - including socks! - and grinned. "How long have I got before it blows?"

Topher cocked his head. "Five, maybe twenty seconds," he guessed. "If it doesn't go off, you may have to try the voice command again."

Yeah, still being serious. Topher, you jackass.

"Yeah, definitely still bringing that sword," Kenzi said, with an epic eye-roll. But she grinned nonetheless. "Thanks, bud. So yeah, if you're not too hungover again, go tomorrow. Take popcorn. And booze. And pictures! Especially if something cool happens."

"Like if you successfully kill anything, because I'd be super surprised?" Rude, Topher. Rude.

Kenzi threw socks at his head. "For that, I am so going to your Graduation, whenever that's gonna be. And recording the whole thing, especially if you end up shrieking."

"But I won't," Topher pointed out smugly. And probably incorrectly, too. "Because I have explosives."
