Fact: Research sucked.

But here Topher was, doing it anyway. Because Peter had told him to, and that was enough, most of the time, to get him to do things. Sad but true.

And... maybe Topher was a little bit more inclined to do as Peter said this week in particular for another reason too. Which would be the need to appease him in light of the terrifying possibility that maybe, just maybe, Karla had blabbed the contents of their conversation the other day and now Peter wanted to kill him and get a new tech person and not be his friend anymore and and and --

Anyway.

Researching.

It was hard, with the siren call of meta for Skyrim beckoning to him, but Topher was managing.

"Dude," Topher echoed, looking from the screen to Kenzi with wide eyes. "Do you think that's a thing?"

"Like I would know?!" Kenzi choked on her popcorn, trying not to hyperventilate. "If this were a horror movie that's what it would be! People waiting, one by one, as their friends are taken out and found floating face down in the water and the ominous music plays and then you find out the killer is calling form inside the house--" she inhaled, her voice very strained and chipper. "But! We aren't in a horror movie! Are we?"

Topher's eyes went even wider, and he was obviously becoming increasingly freaked out. "I. Don't. Know."

Should he call Peter? He wanted to call Peter. Or someone who was weirdly calm in the face of a really messed-up situatio-- wait, no, just Peter.

Kenzi kind of wanted to scream. See! This was why she'd been avoiding finding stuff out! Not knowing was way better! Who said the truth will set you free? Nobody who'd been in jail, that's right!

"Mush!" Then she put down her food. "What can I do to help? Hunh? You need paper? Or some pens? I can get you those!"

Now Topher was side-eyeing her.

"I'll stick to the tech, thanks."

"Okay! I'm... gonna be checking in. To make sure you're okay. Making progress. Stuff. You need anything, you call, got it? Good."

"Oh, hey, I've got something," Topher decided, grabbing her shoulder before she could go. "If I email you a picture, can you blow it up really big for me?"

Hot Tony was pretty, and there was room above his bed, you see.

Kenzi blinked. "Sure? What, star map or something?"

Topher nodded back at the computer screen. HOT TONY VIDEO, KENZI. FOCUS ON THE IMPORTANT STUFF HERE.

That actually calms some of Kenzi's panic. If Topher's priorities are this skewed, the End can't be all that Nigh.

"Seriously?!"

Topher didn't understand her confusion.

"...yes!"

"Will this actually help you concentrate?" Kenzi checked. Also considering making a copy and putting it somewhere with a motto on it.

OLDER TONY SAYS DON'T DRINK AND PARTICLE ACCELERATE. Or something.

"It will help me sleep at night!" This was probably true. Though it might scare the crap out of Dave. "Hurry! We haven't much time!"

"Okay!" And if Topher focused on FutureTony, well, RightNowTony would be left alone, yes? Maybe? ... yeah, maybe not. "Just don't let your friend Tony find out, Topher. Break the cycle." She started heading for the door. "I'll get it to you ASAP!"

"And Mountain Dew!" he yelled after her.

Look, if Peter got to make demands of him all the time, why shouldn't he get to do it to Kenzi?
