Okay. The world was maybe almost over. Topher was more than a little freaked.

So out came the dice and the cape, and after making a quick annoucement, he set up at a toadstool with some character sheets for some pre-apocalyptic Dungeons and Dragons.

Kid had priorities.

"I just don't get it," Topher said again, unhelpfully. "Like. I didn't mean to piss him off. I'm just saying, like, thinking back, it's not like I was being weird by not knowing. Okay?"

"I know," Topher mumbled, looking uncomfortable. "It's just, like... how do you know this stuff already?"

"I don't know. Social cues are stuff you either pick up or you don't," Billy said with a shrug. "Or don't choose to pick up, but that doesn't seem like your thing."

"I guess," Topher said, looking uncertain. "You just, like, figured it out, or...?"

"Did your parents ever try to teach you manners? That totally could have just been my mom." His mother was a little weird sometimes. "Some stuff you figure out from watching how other people interact. Some stuff you figure out from experience. Like, when you accidentally make fun of someone's blueness, and they nearly kill you, the lesson is to not make up nicknames based on what color people are anymore, right?"

Oh, please let Topher not just agree because that seemed like the right thing to do.

"I... guess?" That was half because it seemed like the right thing to do, half because it did make sense in a weird way. "Sort of?"

Billy smiled softly, because at least that was a start. "Look, if the world doesn't end in the next 24 hours, could you try to apologize to Jono? Don't try to explain yourself, don't tell him you don't understand why he's mad, just say you're sorry and that you're not going to call him Blue anymore." He leaned in closer, lowering his voice to try to keep Karla from overhearing. "And if he accepts the apology, I'll heal you, deal?"

"Okay, yeah." Topher nodded, offering Billy a little smile. "And, you know, thanks, by the way, for... like, talking and stuff. You're pretty good at... making things make sense."
